Welcome! I'm so glad you've found my corner of the web. At Audrey Tutors, my mission is to equip the next generation of students to become strong readers, writers, and lifelong learners. I don’t believe in settling for average. I want children to have the skills they need to pursue their interests, chase their dreams, and understand the world around them. Life is a journey filled with twists, turns, roadblocks, and detours—and I've seen firsthand how the process of learning to read can mirror that journey and help children build resilience.
Why Audrey Tutors Exists
The story behind Audrey Tutors is deeply personal. In 2006, while helping with Hurricane Katrina cleanup efforts in Louisiana, I suffered a bleach chemical burn that led to significant health challenges. I had to leave college for a time, adapt to living with chronic pain, and even relearn how to use my left hand. Over time, I managed these obstacles, returning to work first in public schools and later supporting individuals with developmental disabilities on a behavior support team.
In 2012, a medical device I depended on malfunctioned, leaving me unable to walk and facing another long road to recovery. By 2016, I was back on my feet but realized a traditional 9-to-5 career was no longer sustainable. I still had a deep desire to serve others and work with children, so I set out to find a new way forward. I discovered online teaching through VIPKid, helping students overseas learn English. While I loved the work, I wanted a schedule that also allowed time for family and community. I began tutoring independently, drawing on my early dreams of being a teacher and my personal experiences as a struggling student.
As a child, I faced learning challenges in both math and reading, spending years in learning support classes. Though I achieved good grades, I often relied on listening, asking questions, and strategic test-taking rather than strong reading skills. It wasn’t until later that I truly understood the gaps in my education. That experience fuels my commitment today: to give students the strong foundation I once lacked.
My Approach
At Audrey Tutors, I specialize in working with students who face language-based challenges such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and other reading and writing difficulties. I have pursued extensive training in evidence-based methods and continue to study deeply to ensure I provide each learner with the tools they truly need. I believe every student deserves an individualized approach—recognizing not just gaps but strengths, and nurturing growth accordingly.
Children are like trees: they all need the essentials—phonemic awareness, sound-letter knowledge, morphology, and opportunities to apply skills in authentic reading and writing. But just like trees, each learner needs tailored care—some need more pruning, some more sunlight, some more time. Growth is not always linear, and success is not solely measured by grades or standardized benchmarks. True growth happens when we consistently work toward mastery while also remaining open to discovery and challenge.
The Bigger Vision
At Audrey Tutors, my goal is not simply to help students pass tests. It’s to build strong, confident, self-driven learners—readers and writers who are equipped to engage with the world, think critically, and contribute their voices. Mastery of skills, perseverance, and a love of learning are cultivated deliberately and patiently. I believe in helping students rise beyond expectations—not because of rigid timelines or pressure, but through steady work, encouragement, and respect for each learner's journey.
When we view children as whole individuals and invest in both their academic skills and their inner growth, we set them up not just for school success, but for a lifetime of meaningful learning.
Thank you for visiting. I look forward to the possibility of working with you and your learner.
